Square 60

I hope to update pictures soon, plus want to start using some of the hand-dyed I got in a swap.

I have 60 squares and my remaining bottom squares have gone mia somewhere. I have 1 half square on the right side, which I have determined to be an actual outer edge. I will keep the left side open until I decide it's wide enough.

WWKIP Day 2009

WWKIP - Philly style June 14, 2009 @ 11:00 AM

  • Rittenhouse Square
  • south-east quadrant of the park
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • United States

United States, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
Hosted by: Third Street Ravelers
Location: Rittenhouse Square
Time: 11a - ?
Date: June 14, 2009

How to get there:
As with previous KIP events, we’ll be hanging out on the lawn in the south-east quadrant of the park. Look for the people with yarn and needles on blankets looking content in each others company under the canopy of green tranquility.

Please bring:
Bring a blanket or towel or chair to sit on. Bring your WIP! :D Feel free to bring snacks for yourself or for sharing, if you would like, and remember water! Last year was very warm, and hydration while knitting is important. Also, the nearest bathrooms are at Barnes & Noble. Otherwise, just bring yourself and plan to have fun.

The backup plan is:
We have no backup plan. We like to live dangerously.

This KIP is not knitting exclusive
There are no bathrooms nearby.

Duplicate?

Somehow, when I started knitting on my blanket this morning, I realized my current square looked an awful lot loke a square I had done some time ago. IN THE SAME ROW!

How'd I manage that? I'm not even all that fond of that yarn!

Needless to say, it's in my swap bag RIGHT now. I don't know how I managed to use it twice, if I was sleeping or if someone else cast it on for me but Woops!

Is the Sock Blanket like a zombie infection?

I've successfully (with the help of my good fellow blankie maker Krista aka monochromaticgirl on Rav), infected at least two of my knitting group members with the blankie bug!

I'm super excited and can't wait to get my hands on their yarn. I mean - now that we all have the disease we should share right?

I particularly am amused by conversations that are rather like this:

Me: I'm not sure what color to use next in my blankie, I think I want something lighter next
Krista: You can look through my balls.
Me: Want some of this ball? (picking up one from my pile) It's tofutsies.
Krista: Sure!
Me: Can I use some of that green ball?
Krista: It knits up like this (points at square in her blankie)

Knitting a red shawl at the phillies game. My sock yarn blanket is calling me from the bottom of my bag! Why do you torment me so!

New pictures!

I took some pictures of my progress yesterday!

I'm also in the middle of dyeing some 100% merino for a full skein swap!

Each person is dyeing their own, sending it in, and getting about 5 grams of each back! I'm so excited. Right now I've got a minty green base down, I'm hoping to get a little more blue into it!

Woot

The yarn I picked for my most recent square scared me a bit. It had black and blue and yellow in it, and I was just afraid of how it would turn out.

But, I never got to the yellow, and it's very pretty.

The problem with this blanket is that its so addictive. You just make tiny squares over and over and get instant gratification and progress at the same time.

It's so hard not to cast on another square when you finish one. I need to work on my actual SOCKS today thanks little blanket!

My sock yarn blanket is moving along. Love those tiny IG squares!

Putting it Together

I realized it's going to be difficult to keep track of my squares when I'm in swaps that don't identify the yarn and when I put the blocks together it's difficult to weigh how much yarn I'm using.

It's moving along nicely though. I like it!

I lost count!

But I'm going to try to catch up with where I am. I did start to join blocks together. It's pretty! I'm so glad that I am working on this. Thank you Shine!

Picking Up

I'm almost ready to start making things stick together. I think the biggest thing that is keeping me from moving forward is having to ball the mini skeins. The second is that I only have one set of needles.

I want the harmony ones from KP, but am having a hard time buying just one set, when there is a whole kit available. And I have a hard time getting them all when I don't use them often. But 12 dollars for the 2s and 3s vs 30 for all?

Next order!

Squares Thirteen and Fourteen

I've finally made squares with yarn I used in a project. These are from BSJ2 made for my co-worker who is expecting twins. I made two squares not because I like the colors but because I did want all the colors to be represented.

I still have to catch up on photographing and weighing some of my squares. If they weren't in the other room, I'd photo them right now.

Knit Fit Knitting - Footapi - pinks
Knit Fit Knitting free sample
size 2 bamboo

This is a blanket-square-sized free sample that Knit Fit Knitting sent to me, it's so amazingly soft - I can't wait to see how it knits up into a square - I just cast on last night!

Thanks to my Monday night class showing a movie last night I finished this up.

The sample was just enough for 1 square. I really liked working with it!

Ten

This is heavier than the other yarns I've used, but it's pretty, so I wanted to use it anyway!

Square Nine

I've always wanted to try this yarn, so when I saw a post that Dani was partialing off some, I sent her a message and a few days later a bit showed up for my blanket!

Thank you!

Square Eight?

Is that all I've made? I'm not even ready to start joining them yet.

of course, I don't have it with me now, but I wanted to report that I finally finished it.

Even if I did get 'caught' knitting on it by my boss waiting for a meeting to start.

Square Found!

In a project bag, no less. Must finish it, photo it and start the next! Woot!

Thursday, January 15, 2009

I've managed to misplace my current square

If you were a square, where would you be hiding? Please come back. I have lots of nice yarn to use.

Did you see that Lorna's Laces that Val gave me? It needs to be on my needles!

Whoops

I haven't posted in here in a while. My sock blankie was on hold while I worked on Christmas knitting, but now it's moving again.

I just got some super awesome yarn in a bouncing bag swap and mailed out almost 100g to another swap.

I'm going to go find dinner and knit now.
