Square Six

I wonder if at some point I will get tired of numbering these! Probably at the same time I get tired of posting about them. Are you tired of reading them yet?

KYS - nirbhao (part of the starter pack)
50% superwash wool, 25% soy silk, 22.5% cotton, 2.5% chitin
2 grams
size 2 bamboo

I love how soft this is - a little splitty, but not so much that I didn't like using it!

Enablers

I've been holding of on casting on new squares so I work on my Christmas knitting, but that hasn't stopped from thinking about it!

Today I was thinking about a bag that I could keep my needles and yarn in for spontaneous squaring. Over the weekend I bought size 2 bamboo DPNS to keep with the project.

Then I went to my mailbox and in one of my packages was something extra! I had claimed some Panda Soy in a swap (you should see the shade of purple - omg) - and in the bag was also some Panda Cotton and some OYT Bamboo, added specifically for my blanket!

I think I might have to cast on another one soon, even though I have other knitting to do. Or maybe I should work on getting those arm holes to 11 inches.

Thank you Marla!

Christmas Knitting

I want to keep sneaking in squares, join the swaps, make this a project. But I've got a little over a month until Christmas and a vest for my dad that I have to finish.

Sock blankie squares are going to have to hold out - even though I got some six inch bamboo size 2 dpns.

I'm in the process of setting up a slide show of the yarns and squares, but right now it's just looping on another of my yarn albums until I can get this one set up.

Day Two

It's the morning after. I'm not trying to cut my arm off to not wake up the project beside me!

You know what's really fun about this project? You can knit the squares onto each other. And you can knit them individually and knit them together later.

Now I wish I could find the rest of my size 2 dpns. And that I had organized them like I had always thought about.

I also really like the provisional cast on that is suggested for the squares. I've done some pretty horrible provisional cast ons before that have always let to needing to cut out the waste yarn. The one on knitty that is linked to on the original blanket blog is fantastic. And I was even able to figure it out in a decent amount of time - and remember how to do it the next day (this morning, I tried it again)

Square two is on its way. I might even cast it on in the next few minutes.

Of course, starting this blanket means I can play in the KYS sock blanket yarn swap, but I'm having performance anxiety. I measured out 10 grams of the Cestari I used in square one. It seems like a huge amount. Especially since that first square of mine only used 2 grams.

I need to remember to work on Christmas knitting too! (But wow these squares are nice for the instant gratification knitter in me).

Day 1

There's a girl I know online who started a sock blanket and kept trying to convince me to start one.

I kept resisting.

Until today.

She sent me a bunch of sock yarn pieces. All cute and labeled.

Thanks Shine! smooch
